In order to make it to the showing of Weapons at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival I had to leave the post-movie Q&A for Black Snake Moan early. The only reason I'm not totally annoyed with myself for doing that is that the short film preceding the main feature, A Nick in Time by Be' Garrett was outstand

The acting was excellent, from everyone involved. Webber definitely captured the pathos of a beaten down person, accepting everything bad that happens up until a breaking point that must come. As in her performance in Elf , Zooey Deschanel here has an almost ethereal quality... almost as if she's not of this world. She is very compelling when she is onscreen. Bill Paxton, who usually plays a lovable guy was cheerful in a positively creepy way. Harry Dean Stanton, another outstanding performance, straddling the line between lucidity and dementia. And then there's Chris Klein (from American Pie ) in a supporting role that made me somehow laugh and angry at the same t

Randolph and McKay's script for The Big Short - complete with fourth-wall breaking, financial market jargon delivered in the screwball comedy style, and special celebrity cameos that are simultaneously funny and informative - certainly bucks convention in a good way, as many have noticed. If there's one area where The Big Short has the best shot at snagging an award on Golden Globes night, it's arguably in the area of screenwrit

The film then goes to Sean (played by the up and coming Mark Webber) and [https://Moviefestivalhub.com/ Moviefestivalhub.Com] his friends Jason and Chris. Chris tries to film everything ("I'm making a movie.") and is what I would call a dangerous geek. Dorky, can't get a girl, and drives around with a shotgun in back of his car in case he "wants to shoot someone". Jason is cocky and a tough guy, while Sean is just back from college, although he's easily sucked back into his friends' dead end lifest

A relatively subdued Ricky Gervais took the stage as host of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards . In his second year as host, it appears that all of last year’s controversy surrounding Gervais' hosting must have impacted the funnyman, as all of his jabs appeared a little too nice compared to what was said last ye

Jennifer Lawrence and Maggie Smith have both won multiple Golden Globes already, but most seem to agree that their latest performances (while solid enough in their own right) aren't their best. McCarthy landed her first Golden Globe this year too though as mentioned before, Schumer shown brighter in 2015 than the rest here and chances are good that the HFPA will recognize her for

Her husband Albert is a successful businessman in the golf industry, and it consumes his life. He is very cold to his wife, which is doubly unfortunate because of the fact that she has deep emotional problems stemming from being the victim of sexual abuse as a child. She is teeming with self-loathing and his attitude towards her certainly doesn't help matt

Christian Bale and Steve Carell provide the heart and soul of The Big Short , while Al Pacino and Mark Ruffalo likewise do fine work in Danny Collins and Infinitely Polar Bear . Nonetheless, many would argue that Damon is simply better in The Martian - and at the very least, he's gotten a lot more attention for his work in the Ridley Scott sci-fi feature than any of his competitors in the Best Actor, Comedy/Musical category have for their movies this y

The Best Actress (Drama) field is a competitive one this year and there's really not a weak link in the chain. Nevertheless, it would've been nice if there had been room for Rachel McAdams to land a Golden Globe nod for her un-flashy, yet effective and meaningful, turn as a seasoned journalist and reporter in Spotlight , all the s

Weapons is a 2007 drama film that delves into the complexities of adolescence, exploring the lives of a group of high school students as they navigate relationships, social hierarchies, and personal struggles in the midst of a tragic event that shakes their commun

All the talk about Leonardo DiCaprio braving hypothermia-inducing temperatures, fighting CGI bears, and eating a raw bison liver aside, The Revenant boasts an excellent, largely wordless, performance from DiCaprio - one that's worlds apart from his Golden Globe-winning turn as a fast-talking scumball in The Wolf of Wall Street , a couple years ago. Matthew McConaughey ended up winning the Best Actor Oscar over DiCaprio at the Oscars that year, and there's a real possibility Matt Damon will do the same at the Academy Awards this year. As far as the Golden Globes go, though, DiCaprio is the easy pick for Best Actor in a Dr

Other notable wins in the film category were Meryl Streep as Best Actress (drama) for portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady , Best Actress (comedy or musical) Michelle Williams for My Weekend With Marilyn and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress in The He

About 3/4 of the way through the film I was hoping for "release" almost as much as Nancy. I honestly don't understand how an actor can look at a script like this and not just say: "Damn, that is f'ed up!" and just move on to the next
I doubt that. Is she saying Lewellen should be allowed to act seductively without fear of being attacked? I don't know. Part of his explanation is that the story behind the artwork contributes to the value. What has the artist gone through, for example? In Marlas's case part of the value is due to the fact of her young age and the apparent sophistication of the w

The director interjects himself into his own documentary to express his suddenly conflicted feelings on the entire project due to the extreme turn of events. He's pals with Mike (played by Mos Def), a low-key guy without any big aspirations who works at one of the last few VHS video rental stores left in New Jer

Several indie and lesser-known critical-darlings received little-to-no love from the Hollywood Foreign Press, including titles like The Tree of Life , Warrior , Drive , Martha Marcy May Marlene , and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy . Similarly, there were more than a few surprising snubs (no Best Director nod for David Fincher on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo ? No Winnie the Pooh for Best Animated Feature?) and certain films fared far better than anticipated (namely, The Ides of March ). However, there were also more than a few no-brainers (ex. Meryl Streep being nominated for The Iron Lady ) and some rather unexpected choices (ex. Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid, Lov

Villeneuve's horrifying drama/thriller about drug crime on the U.S./Mexico border has been criticized for certain flaws with its screenplay, but the direction on Sicario very much packs a punch - and is arguably as much (if not a bigger) highlight of the film than the direction on such performance driven features as Spotlight . Sicario could end up edging one of those films out for a Best Director nod at the Oscars this year, for related reas

The films opens at a government meeting in 2003, where Malalai Joya, then a 25 year old woman and outspoken critic of the Taliban (which marks her as incredibly brave right from the start) is given the opportunity to speak to the hundreds of people present. She criticisizes the government for still allowing tribal warlords to be in power and function as part of the government, pointing out the atrocities that they have committed, particularly against women, over many years. Although we are shown some nods of agreement with her statement in the audience, the official presiding over the meeting has her thrown out and banned permanently from any future meeting of this t

Legend may not be the most memorable biography about a real-life gangster (make that gangsters ), but Tom Hardy's turn as the Twin crime bosses Reggie and Ronnie Kray is easily the film's highlight. It's also a notable case of an actor having to play off himself while at the same time crafting multi-faceted portraits of two real-world charact

Now the movie doesn't turn bad here, but unfortunately this is where the comedy pretty much stops and the film turns into a sentimental last ditch effort to save the building that houses the store from being condem

They get it done in the nick of time and as it turns out she and the gang-banger friends of the young man living in her home like it as well.
