I really did want to give this a chance and for about the first 15 or 20 minutes although I didn't think it was great, I thought it was ok and moving in an interesting direction. Unfortunately it really fell apart as it got further along. The style of the film actually reminded me of the controversial movie Kids by director Larry Clarke, which although it was more about teen sex than violence and was considered exploitative, really got the point of the nothing to lose, dead end lives of it's characters than this film managed to


When I read the description for director/screenwriter Adam Bhala Lough's Weapons , I had a feeling it might not be up my alley but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. In the end I should have passed on it, and many people I spoke to after the showing had the same, if not stronger opinions to the negative as well. All in all, the event was solid for an industry awards presentation but to the viewers at home, it wasn't that exciting or up beat. There were a lot of good movies to choose from this year and I think we all would of liked to see Quentin Tarantino and his Inglourious Basterds get a little more cre


The director interjects himself into his own documentary to express his suddenly conflicted feelings on the entire project due to the extreme turn of events. I think this really adds to the sense of neutrality of the film as you see that this was very unexpected. The film then goes to Sean (played by the up and coming Mark Webber) and his friends Jason and Chris. Weapons is yet another movie that starts with the ending. Coincidentally, The Good Life which starred Mark Webber, who is also in this film also started the same way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Once the movie was through it became obvious why it was done that way, but that doesn't exactly mean that it worked well. The opening scene with it's lingering, slow camera shot is indicative of more of the same to come. It starts quite literally with a bang that is not for the feint hear

The Best Comedy contender that does have a chance of sneaking in and taking the prize away from The Martian is The Big Short , Adam McKay's inventive comical take on author Michael Phillips' decidedly complicated non-fiction book about those who foresaw the 2007 housing market collapse.
