Guillermo Del Toro Talks Future Projects More

There's been much talk about a sequel to the 2008 surprise superhero hit, Hancock , with conversation picking up particularly when it comes to the cast of Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman possibly returning to do another. Director Peter Berg said a few months ago that everyone was excited to return , but not long after that Bateman came out and said he hadn't heard anything about him returning (we're still not sure if that cluelessness was applicable to Smith and Theron, t

While some were disappointed (myself included) that director Ridley Scott decided to drop a couple of unique concepts for the story from the final product (Russell Crowe playing both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham, the sheriff as the good guy and Robin as the villain), this still looks like a great, reality-based update of the st

Visually, Zack Snyder did a fantastic job with Watchmen . The incredible attention to detail in everything from the background sets to the props and costumes is really something to see. Of course one aspect of the film I could have stood to see a bit less of was Dr. Manhattan's penis. The logic of the story was that eventually he becomes so detached from human norms that he doesn't see the point of wearing any clothing. However I'm pretty sure I don't recall Mr. Happy being so prevalent in the book. I guess more people thought it was ridiculous ( as I did ) than thought it was "awesome, dude!". Personally, I'd love to see a sequel to The Rundown , which I think is an under-appreciated film that features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Sean William Scott cooking up some great comedic chemistry. I'd much rather he concentrate on doing another one of that than do Hancock 2 , because frankly, I don't wanna' see another Hancock . To me, the first installment was a fun-at-times film, but one that didn't live up to its huge potential, IMHO. And the story was fine for one film, but the possible sequel storyline pitched by Berg awhile back didn't sound that good to

One big suprise in the above list is Pixar's Wall-E : I'm really shocked that the R-rating-pushing, PG-13 and mediocre (according to most critics) Hancock actually beat the family friendly Pixar film. Also surprising is that Kung Fu Panda made almost as much as the Wall-E . It looks like despite the universally rave reviews click for more Wall-E , that the overly message-heavy plot of the movie wasn't as much of a winner with families as other of their films like The Incredibles and Finding Nemo . Heck, even Cars (considered by many to be Pixar's weakest film) made more money than Wall-E at the box off


Having said that, just think about this: the studio has already hired two writers for Hancock 2 , and so it seems they want to get it into theaters sooner before later. I've said it before but I'll reiterate - could we see Berg departing Hancock 2 and the studio bringing in another director in his place? If they want to get this thing in the can soon, and Berg is busy, it only makes sense that he'd be replaced. It's not like the reason people went to see the first Hancock was because Berg directed... And he already had to drop out of the Dune remake
